Masseria Salamina Wedding Photographer in Puglia

Tia and Nick’s black-tie wedding at Masseria Salamina brought 120 of their closest friends and family from Chicago to Puglia for two days of celebrations in the Italian countryside.

After 13 years together, Italy was always going to be a meaningful place for them to get married. Nick has Italian family and has visited throughout his life, so bringing everyone together in Puglia felt personal rather than simply choosing a beautiful destination.

Masseria Salamina is a stunning place to photograph a wedding. Surrounded by the Puglian countryside, with its warm stone buildings, ancient chapel, courtyards and olive trees, every part of the venue feels connected. The whole wedding flowed naturally from one space to the next, without ever feeling overly structured.

Photographing a Wedding at Masseria Salamina

From a photographer’s perspective, Masseria Salamina is an incredible venue to work at.

The grounds are beautiful, the stone buildings create a backdrop that works throughout the day, and there is enough variety to create a full wedding story without ever needing to leave the venue.

For Tia and Nick’s wedding, I photographed the full weekend across digital photography and 35mm film, alongside videography and drone coverage on the wedding day.

My approach was a mixture of documentary photography and a small amount of editorial portraiture. Most of the day was photographed exactly as it happened, with short windows for portraits when the light was at its best.

That balance suited their wedding perfectly: black tie, beautifully styled and visually considered, but still relaxed and centred around having 120 of their favourite people together in Puglia.

Planning a Masseria Salamina Wedding?

If you are planning your own wedding at Masseria Salamina, my biggest piece of advice is to give the day space.

Think carefully about sunset, allow enough time for the aperitivo, and consider taking some of your family photographs before the ceremony. It means you can spend more of the day with the people who have travelled to Italy to celebrate with you.

Tia and Nick’s wedding showed exactly why Puglia works so well for a destination celebration. It can feel luxurious without being overly formal, and beautifully styled without losing the relaxed atmosphere that makes an Italian wedding so special.

I travel from London to photograph weddings throughout Italy and Europe, combining documentary photography with editorial portraits, 35mm film and hybrid photo and video coverage.

If you are planning a wedding at Masseria Salamina or elsewhere in Puglia and want your day photographed in a way that feels natural, stylish and completely your own, I would love to hear about it.
